Harold Jay Wilson , bass-bantone, recently completed his Master's
Degree at Indiana University where he studied with Giorgio Tozzi.
At Indiana Opera Theater he sang principal roles in "Manon"
, "Faust",
"The Rape of Lucretia", "Wozzeck", "La Cenerentola", "Carmen",
"The Magic Flute", "Falstaff", "Idomeneo", and "Eugene Onegin".
Professionally his recent roles include Snug in "A Midsummer
Night's Dream" with Florentine Opera ( a role he later covered
at the Metropolitan Opera), Reinmar in "Tannhauser" with Palm
Beach Opera, Monterone in "Rigoletto" and Pistola in "Falstaff" with
Opera Illinois, Zunign in "Carmen" and Il Comrnendatore in "Don
Giovanni" with Opera North, 5th Jew in "Salome" with Glimmerglass
Opera, and Baron Grog in "The Grand Duchess of Gerolstein" with
Opera Theatre of St. Louis. Equally comfortable on the concert
stage, Harold has sung solos in Handel's "Messiah" with the
Indianapolis Chamber Symphony and "Beethoven's 9th" with the
Yakima Symphony Orchestra. Future engagements include a return
to Opera North to sing Prince Gremin in "Eugene Onegin", and a
full season contract with Deutsche Oper-Berlin where he will sing
8 roles with the company. In July of 2003 he was awarded the "Sonderpreis für beste Bühnepräsenz" at the Belvedere-Wettbewerb Competition in Vienna. |
