Ms. Katz performed the title role in Mascagni’s rarely done Zanetto, with Artistic Director, Lucine Amara’s company NJ Association of Verismo Opera. The Newark Star Ledger praised the young mezzo for, “beauty of tone and stylish musicality.” Another critic described her performance as, “a superior voice and admirable performer.” She has also performed the role of Maddalena in Rigoletto with NJ Association of Verismo Opera. Ms. Katz has worked with Central City Opera, Sarasota Opera, Opera International, Dicapo Opera, and Opera of the Hamptons. In June of 1998 the young mezzo made her debut at the Teatro da Fontana in Italy; where she worked with celebrated soprano, Antonietta Stella. Ms. Katz performed excerpts from Carmen, Cavalleria Rusticana, Adriana Lecouvreur, and Don Carlo. Engagements for the 2003-2004 year included; Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana and Flora in La Traviata for Opera of the Hamptons. Ms.Katz’s performance of Lola, was described as,” coupling a rich mezzo-soprano voice with looks that made you understand why Turriddu was tempted and why her husband took his revenge on him.” In December 2003, she was the Alto soloist, when the German School of New York and Washington united in New York for Bach’s Weihnachts Oratorium. In May 2004, she performed Mahler’s Urlicht, with the German School of New York. The March concert of The Unknown Mascagni, with acclaimed author and pianist, Alan Mallach, was described as, “A beautiful voice; sang with depth and passion.” Ms. Katz, has a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Miami, School of Music. |
